Luxury All-Inclusive Specialist
Almost every resort in Mexico and the Caribbean calls itself five-star, and most of them awarded the stars to themselves. I am Mike Boguslavskiy. I have stayed at 115+ resorts, I book the luxury tier every week, and I keep a short list of the luxury all-inclusive resorts that earn the word: inspected ratings, butler service that answers, and dining that would survive outside the gates. Every all-inclusive booking includes private roundtrip airport transfers from me.

Five Stars, Self-Awarded
Mexico's hotel star system is a self-evaluation. The hotel fills in the questionnaire, the tourism ministry registers the result, and the stars go on the website. That is why a value resort and a butler resort can both call themselves five-star and both be telling the truth by that standard. The stars tell you what the resort thinks of itself.
Two organizations actually send people. AAA's inspectors visit unannounced, every year, and hand Five Diamond to roughly three in every thousand properties they rate. Forbes Travel Guide's inspectors book anonymously, stay at least two nights, and grade against up to 900 standards, most of them about service. When a resort holds one of those, the stars mean something. When it does not, the stars are its opinion.
Then there is the third check, which is mine. I have stayed at 115+ resorts, most of the luxury tier more than once, and I know which butler programs answer the phone, which "adults-only sanctuary" shares its beach with a party resort, and which suite category is worth the jump. Three Tiers, One Word
"Luxury all-inclusive" gets used for three different products, and the price gap between them is real. Knowing which one you are looking at is most of the decision.
The Short List
Every resort below holds an AAA Five Diamond, a Forbes Travel Guide star rating, or both, on the 2026 lists. That is the entry ticket. The order and the notes are mine.
Playa del Carmen · All ages
Three ambiances in one resort, from jungle-set family suites to an adults-only oceanfront side, and the only all-inclusive anywhere whose restaurant holds a Michelin star and an AAA Five Diamond at once. When the trip has to be perfect, this is where I point people.
Cancún · Adults-only
The adults-only original on the Hotel Zone beach: butler service, a spa that anchors the whole week, and six restaurants that trade variety for quality. Expensive even by luxury all-inclusive standards, and its regulars do not care.
Playa del Carmen · Adults-only
198 suites on the north end of Secrets Moxché, every one with butler service, plus three exclusive restaurants including Teodoro, a private rooftop pool and a beach club, with full run of the Secrets side too. I stayed in August 2023; it is the best example of "a different resort" I can show you.
Isla Mujeres · Adults-only
The Impression tier on its own island across the bay from Cancún: butler service, oceanfront infinity pools, overwater hammocks, and a four-story water slide nobody expects at a resort this polished. The newest Five Diamond in the region.
Playa del Carmen · All ages
The rate includes the Xcaret parks, which no other resort can offer, and HA' holds a Michelin star and an AAA Five Diamond as a restaurant. The one resort on this list where a family with kids gets the full luxury tier and the best week of activities on the coast.
Playa del Carmen · Adults-only
Xcaret's 63-suite boutique next to the big hotel: intimate multi-course dining, the parks still included, and the quiet the flagship cannot offer. The adults-only way into the Xcaret world.
Akumal, Riviera Maya · Adults-only
The upscale side of the Hard Rock family, adults-only on the Akumal stretch, with a Five Diamond it has held every year since 2019. Ask about the local-host program; it is the closest thing to a butler on this list without the word.
Riviera Maya · Adults-only
The longest-running Five Diamond in the Secrets family, on the stretch of sand I rank as the best beach of any Secrets resort. Preferred Club here is the upgrade worth taking; my five-resort Secrets comparison explains why.
Costa Mujeres · Adults-only
Opened February 2025 and Five Diamond in its first year: 505 suites, two oceanfront infinity pools, a jungle pool open to every guest, and a 29,000-square-foot spa. I run its fan community, so I know it week to week.
Akumal, Riviera Maya · Adults-only
The quiet Secrets, on Akumal's turtle bay, with an 18,000-square-foot spa and a Five Diamond since 2022. Secrets Moxché in Playa del Carmen and Secrets Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic hold the same rating; the comparison guide sorts them.
Los Cabos · All ages
The only Forbes Five-Star all-inclusive in Mexico or the Caribbean, with three tiers of infinity pools stepping toward the sea. Honest note it earns by saying itself: the beach out front is not for swimming, and Chileno's calm cove sits a mile away.
Los Cabos · Adults-only
Butler service, seven restaurants, and the polish that made the Cancún original famous, transplanted to the Corridor. The special-occasion pick when the spa is half the point.
Nuevo Vallarta · All ages
The only all-inclusive on Mexico's Pacific coast holding the Five Diamond, and it has held it every year since 2007, with its suites freshly renovated. When someone says "the best all-inclusive on the bay," this is usually the answer.
Puerto Vallarta · Adults-only
The adults-only tower above Garza Blanca on the bay's south side, Five Diamond since 2015. Its Cancún sibling opened in May 2024; I toured it before the doors opened, and the rooftop-and-terrace formula is the same.
Playa Mujeres · Adults-only
The art-hotel take on adults-only luxury north of Cancún, and one of the few all-inclusives in the region Forbes rates at all. Its María Dolores tasting room is the hardest table to book on this coast.
Cap Cana, Punta Cana · Adults-only
The Dominican Republic's only Five Diamond all-inclusive, inside Cap Cana's gates on Juanillo Beach, the calmest swimmable water on the coast, ten minutes from the airport.
Antigua · All ages
A private island off Antigua, reached by launch, run all-inclusive at a level almost nothing else in the Caribbean matches. The answer when the brief is "no cars, no crowds, and do not make us think about a bill."
Grenada · All ages
A small all-inclusive on Grand Anse, one of the Caribbean's great beaches, holding a Five Diamond since 2016. Grenada is the quiet island most of my clients have not tried yet; this is the reason to.
Samaná, Dominican Republic · All ages
An island resort in Samaná Bay, all-inclusive and Forbes Four-Star, on the humpback-whale side of the Dominican Republic. The pairing I like with a Miches week for travelers who want the country without the Punta Cana strip.
Punta Cana · Adults-only
Palladium's adults-only tier on the Bávaro strip, with butler service and run of the whole Grand Palladium complex behind it. The Forbes nod puts it a notch above the strip's other adults-only names.
When the Best Room Is Not All-Inclusive
Not every luxury trip should be all-inclusive. In Aruba and Costa Rica most of what I plan is luxury and boutique resorts and villas, and on the Riviera Maya I book the luxury properties at Mayakoba and Maroma alongside the Secrets and the Grand Velas. If the right week is dinner in a different restaurant every night, I plan it that way. Every AAA note below is from the 2026 Five Diamond list.

Straight Answer
The question I get most in the fan groups, answered in nine words.
Preferred Club, Excellence Club and their cousins buy you a better suite, a private pool and lounge, and upgraded dining access inside the same resort. That is often the smartest money on this page. Impression, Le Blanc, Grand Velas and the Xcaret boutiques are built differently from the ground up: butler service on every suite, an entry category that is already a suite, and dining that would survive outside the gates. If you are deciding between a club-tier suite at a premium resort and an entry suite at a luxury one, send me both and I will tell you which week is actually better for the money.

Live Aqua Cancún, TRS Turquesa, Paradisus La Perla and Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach are Forbes Recommended.
The top of the brand is. Secrets Maroma Beach, Secrets Playa Blanca, Secrets Akumal, Secrets Moxché and Secrets Cap Cana hold AAA Five Diamond; Secrets Playa Mujeres holds Four Diamond. Within any Secrets, Preferred Club is an upgrade: better suites, a private pool and lounge. Impression by Secrets, at Moxché and on Isla Mujeres, is a different resort: butler service on every suite, exclusive restaurants, a private rooftop pool. At the resorts where it is real, the butler is your point of contact for the week: dinner reservations, spa bookings, a stocked minibar the way you want it, pool loungers held, a private dinner set on the beach, and problems fixed before you notice them. At the resorts where it is a welcome note and a pillow menu, you will know by the second day. I tell you which is which before you pay for it.
For the trip that has to be perfect, yes. Grand Velas Riviera Maya holds an AAA Five Diamond since 2010, a Forbes Four-Star rating, and a Michelin star at Cocina de Autor, and it is the only all-inclusive anywhere with that combination. Grand Velas Los Cabos is the only Forbes Five-Star all-inclusive in Mexico or the Caribbean. The honest trade: at Los Cabos the beach is for looking, and at Riviera Maya the resort is large enough that the ambiance you book matters. I will match you to the right one.
Grand Velas Riviera Maya (the Ambassador and Zen Grand sides), Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit and Grand Velas Los Cabos, Hotel Xcaret México, Jumby Bay, Spice Island Beach Resort and Cayo Levantado all take families and keep the luxury tier intact. Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana shares its campus with adults-only Hyatt Zilara, so a family gets crossover dining at the grown-up side. For families the luxury question usually comes down to Grand Velas or Hotel Xcaret, and the parks decide it.

Almost. Room, dining, drinks, most activities and the spa's hydrotherapy circuit are usually in the rate, and at Hotel Xcaret the parks are too. Some chef's-table experiences carry a charge; Teodoro at Impression Moxché did when I stayed, and the resort tells you upfront. Spa treatments, premium wines, and private dinners on the beach are extra almost everywhere. I list what your rate covers before you book so nothing on the final bill is a surprise.
Hyatt Privé is Hyatt's invitation-only program for travel advisors. Booking through a Privé member agency adds amenities on top of the standard rate at participating hotels, and the program extends to Hyatt's all-inclusive brands: Secrets, Impression, Zoëtry, Dreams, Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara, where the benefit set is adapted for all-inclusive stays. There is no fee for it. I confirm which extras apply to your resort and dates before you book.
Yes. In Aruba and Costa Rica most of what I plan is luxury and boutique resorts and villas, and on the Riviera Maya I book the Mayakoba estate, Maroma, NIZUC, the Waldorf Astoria and the St. Regis alongside the all-inclusives. If the right trip is a beach week at an all-inclusive and a jungle week at Tabacón Thermal Resort, I plan both halves and the drive between them.
The top suite categories are the smallest inventories on the property, and the holiday weeks and February sell out of them first. For a specific suite over Christmas, Presidents' Week or a milestone date, the earlier the better. Off-peak, the same suites can be booked closer in, and that is when the luxury tier is most reasonably priced.
It costs nothing extra compared to booking online, because the resorts pay me.
