Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana opens April 1, 2027. Yes, that is April Fools’ Day, and Hyatt announced it to me with a straight face – so fingers crossed everyone. The date is very much real, and so is the resort: a 406-suite, adults-only, Unlimited-Luxury® all-inclusive (Hyatt’s everything-included model: no wristbands, no dinner reservations) on Macao Beach, the last mostly undeveloped beach zone in the Punta Cana area, already accepting reservations for arrivals from opening day. Everything in this guide is based only on official data that has been confirmed by Hyatt as of August 2026.
I know this coastline firsthand. I have stayed at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana, the sister resort one mile down the sand, and I have spent real time on Macao Beach itself. The seclusion out here is real. Most ground-floor suites are swim-outs, a speakeasy and a Dominican cacao house anchor the central plaza, and like most Hyatt resorts small dogs are welcome, a rarity among adults-only all-inclusives in the Caribbean. I will walk the property on a pre-opening site inspection before the first guests check in. But for now, here’s literally everything I know.

You can book Secrets Macao Beach right now and I have access to hands down the best rates for it. BUT should you book the opening month or later into 2027?

Still to come: hours for a handful of venues (the speakeasy, the cigar lounge, the chocolate house, the fitness center), final spa hours, ceremony capacities, and the resort map. I’ll have answers on all of it when I walk the property before opening day.
Now the timing question. Being early here works in your favor. Somebody gets to be the first to sleep on those mattresses, the first into the swim-out pools, the first name the bartenders learn. Opening-window guests get a quiet property, staff with real time to connect, and grand-opening rates that are sometimes flat-out exceptional. New resorts iron out details in their early weeks, and that is the trade: a few rough edges in exchange for pricing and attention this property will never offer again.
The date helps too: April 1 sits outside Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30) and at the tail of Punta Cana’s high season. Opening-month guests get prime-season weather.

Who Will Actually Like Staying at Secrets Macao Beach
Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana knows exactly who it is for.
Book it if you are:
- A couple that values seclusion over walkable nightlife. Macao is the quiet end of Punta Cana. The trade is a longer transfer and no resort strip outside the gates; evenings happen on property across 11 bars, a theater with nightly shows, and a speakeasy.
- A swim-out person. 95 swim-out and swim-up suites in a 406-suite resort means roughly one suite in four opens onto a pool. Most ground-floor suites open straight into a pool.
- A surfer or nature-leaning traveler. Macao is a top surf spot with a real surf-school scene, and the Infinity Pool faces ocean and mangrove views.
- A dog owner. Small dogs under 22 pounds are welcome, which almost no adults-only all-inclusive in the Caribbean offers.
- A wedding group, including South Asian weddings. Published packages run from intimate vow renewals to 79-guest celebrations, pricing runs through December 20, 2028, and their in-house coordinator is certified in South Asian weddings. And you know that grand-opening deals are the best. Especially when it comes to wedding packages and groups.
- A spa traveler. Seven treatment cabins, every one with a private patio, a bridal suite, and a full hydrotherapy circuit.
Skip it if you are:
- Someone who wants a busy resort strip. Bávaro is built for that. Macao is the opposite by design.
- Traveling with kids. Secrets is adults-only, 18 and over. Dreams Macao Beach next door is the family answer, water park included.
- Someone who needs every venue open in month one. The speakeasy, chocolate house, and cigar lounge still carry TBD hours, and new resorts rotate venues while occupancy builds.
Getting There
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is your gateway. The Macao zone sits about 22 miles up the coast; plan on a 35 to 45 minute private transfer depending on traffic. That is a longer ride than Cabeza de Toro (about 22 minutes) or the Bávaro hotel zone, and the extra distance is the whole point. Macao trades airport convenience for the most secluded setting among the local Secrets properties.

The 35 to 45 minute estimate is a private-transfer figure. Macao sits beyond Cabeza de Toro and Bávaro coming from the airport, so a shared shuttle making hotel-zone stops reaches it last. If a short airport run matters more than seclusion, Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana at Cabeza de Toro is the closer play. If you are choosing Macao, book the private transfer, budget the full 45 minutes, and let the extra miles buy you the beach.
The Setting: Macao Beach and El Macao Village
Macao Beach is the reason this resort exists where it does. It is the last mostly undeveloped stretch in the Punta Cana area: golden sand, palms, and waves that actually break. It is a top surf spot in Punta Cana, and the seclusion out here is real in a way that Bávaro’s hotel row simply is not.
Macao is also a public beach, one of the few in the area where locals and travelers actually share the sand. A normal day here means surf lessons in the break, seafood cooking at shacks by the water, and dune buggies rumbling through on excursion routes. The small village of El Macao surrounds the resort site, so the beach keeps a working Dominican life around it. That mix is the charm.
I know this stretch firsthand. I have stayed at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana, the family-friendly sister resort one mile away (about five minutes), open since December 2019 with its own water park. The sand and water quality are the draw, and Bávaro feels much farther away than the drive time suggests.
Day trips within reach: Saona Island; Catalina Island and its snorkeling reef about 1.5 miles offshore; colonial Santo Domingo; La Romana, about 1.5 hours west; the Basilica of the Virgen de la Altagracia in Higüey; and Altos de Chavón, a 16th-century-style Mediterranean village replica.
Rooms and Suites at Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana
My top tip here: book the Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim-Out. It is the volume swim-out category at 81 units, which means real availability, and it gets you the thing this resort is built around: a terrace that opens straight into the pool.
This resort has 406 rooms split across Junior Suites coming in at 564 square feet, Master Suites coming in at 1,128 square feet, and a single Presidential Suite coming in at a whopping 3,789 square feet. All of them are furnished with a king or two double beds, plus a balcony or terrace, a rain shower, a private vanity area behind sliding doors, an in-room tablet, a daily refreshed minibar, a steam iron, and 24-hour room service. All non-smoking.
The room math:
– 211 of the 406 suites (52 percent) are Preferred Club categories, the brand’s upgraded club tier. – The 195 standard-tier rooms are all Junior Suites, none with swim-out access, and the view ladder tops out at Partial Ocean View.
– Swim-out and swim-up units total 95 across four categories, and every one of them sits in the Preferred Club tier. – 313 suites have king beds; travelers who need two beds are choosing from 93 double-bed Junior Suites.
Occupancy rules: king Junior Suites sleep two adults maximum, double-bed Junior Suites three, Master Suites two. Connecting rooms exist, though specific pairs are not published, and accessible-room counts are not published either.
One note before the rundown: the renderings are pre-opening design intent, and built rooms can differ in the details.
Junior Suites, 564 sq ft (Standard Tier)
Junior Suite Tropical View: 72 units (61 king, 11 double)
Junior Suite Pool View: 91 units (74 king, 17 double)
Junior Suite Partial Ocean View: 32 units (27 king, 5 double)
Book the Partial Ocean View early if a water view matters on a standard-tier budget. At 32 units, it is the scarcest non-Preferred category and the only standard-tier room with an ocean view.
Per Hyatt’s renderings, the Junior Suite reads earthy and texture-heavy rather than glossy: a king bed against a backlit wood-slat feature wall with woven-fringe pendant lamps on each side, a built-in lounge sofa with palm-print and olive pillows, a round jute rug, and warm plaster walls in cream and sand with terracotta accents. The vanity hides behind a slatted wood partition.
Preferred Club Junior Suites, 564 sq ft
Tropical View: 38 units (24 king, 14 double) – Pool View: 38 units (26 king, 12 double)
Ocean View: 13 units (6 king, 7 double)
Swim-Out: 81 units (56 king, 25 double), terrace opening straight into the building pool
Swim-Up: 4 units (2 king, 2 double)
The four-unit Swim-Up category sits on the second floor of the building connected to the lobby, with direct access to an ocean-view pool. A swim-up suite above ground level is rare, and four units will sell out first. Only 25 of the 81 Swim-Out units have double beds; if you need two beds, lock one in early.
Preferred Club Master Suites, 1,128 sq ft
All king, two adults maximum. Masters double the Junior footprint and add a true living area, a fully equipped kitchenette, a dining area, a large terrace with sun loungers, an oversized bathroom with a whirlpool bathtub, and a second bathroom.
Tropical View: 10 units
Pool: 14 units
Ocean Front (third floor): 2 units
Swim-Out: 6 units
Swim-Out Ocean View: 4 units
Book a Master for real living space. Book the Swim-Out Ocean View version far ahead; four units disappear fast. The two Ocean Front suites on the third floor are equally scarce.
The Master Suite renderings show a round marble-top dining table under a green-marble and white-glass globe chandelier, botanical mural panels, a large arched mirror, and sheer drapes onto the terrace.
Preferred Club Presidential Suite Rooftop Ocean Front, 3,789 sq ft
One unit, fourth floor, prime oceanfront. The terrace carries seating, sun loungers, and a private jet pool. Inside: a full kitchen, dining and living areas, a king bedroom with sofa bed, a walk-in closet, a soaking tub, a whirlpool, and a separate guest bathroom. It can connect to a Preferred Club Junior Suite Ocean View with double beds at additional cost.

If you want an ocean view without paying for Preferred Club, the Junior Suite Partial Ocean View is the only standard-tier category that has one, and there are just 32 of those rooms out of 195. For honeymooners, the decision is easier: book a Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim-Out for seven or more nights and the Honeymoon Bliss package comes complimentary, the highest-value threshold in the resort's published romance pricing. Either way, book early. Single-digit and sub-five categories go first at any resort.
Is Preferred Club Worth It at Secrets Macao Beach?
At most Secrets resorts the club tier is a nicer slice of the property; at Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana it is most of the property.
- 211 of 406 suites (52 percent) are Preferred Club.
- Every swim-out and swim-up suite is a Preferred Club category.
- Ocean views are almost entirely Preferred Club; the standard tier tops out at Partial Ocean View.
Set aside the generic perks for a second (personalized check-in, a dedicated concierge from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., upgraded bath amenities, a pillow menu, a better minibar, newspapers and loungers on request). What you are really paying for here:
- The Preferred Club lounge: continental breakfast every morning, hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and desserts in the afternoon, and fine liquors
- A Preferred Club-only restaurant, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner served at the lounge
- The Preferred Club pool with its own bar (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- A private beach area with dedicated concierge and bar service
- A private rooftop bar – And the one nobody else offers: included access to the water park at Dreams Macao Beach next door
Extra-cost add-ons: laundry collection, shoeshine, honeymoon and anniversary spa setups, private romantic dinners, a lobster party, and a VIP wine-cellar dinner.
Whether it is worth it depends heavily on what your level of FOMO truly is. If you are the type to walk by the Preferred Club pool or the beach zone or that restaurant at breakfast and let it bother you that you are heading to the regular buffet instead, that feeling will ruin the rest of your whole vacation. If that is you, Preferred Club is worth it, hands down. No questions asked. Book it. Don’t look back.
If you can walk past all of it without a second thought, the standard tier is no penalty box. It keeps every à la carte restaurant, the buffet, the 24-hour café, the main bars, the Infinity and Relax pools, the beach, the theater, and the full activities calendar. Book a garden or pool-view Junior Suite and spend the difference at the spa.
Dining at Secrets Macao Beach: 10 Food Venues
Count them this way: six à la carte restaurants, one buffet, one poolside grill, one 24-hour café, and one chocolate house, for 10 food venues. Add the venues at Dreams Macao Beach next door, which Secrets guests can use, and the two-resort total comes to 18 dining options. No reservations are required anywhere, every restaurant carries a gluten-free menu with advance notice, and restaurant openings rotate through the week based on occupancy.
The six à la carte restaurants (dinner 6 to 10:30 p.m.)
El Tamarindo (Mexican): about 98 seats, Casual Elegance dress code.
Castaways (seafood): about 116 seats, air-conditioned plus outdoor seating, Casual Elegance. The showpiece of the render set: a massive curved canopy of natural-fiber fringe waves across the ceiling under a terracotta dome, above arched openings, a herringbone stone floor, woven-strap chairs, marble-top tables, and a wall of ceramic plates. Coastal, with no fishing-net kitsch anywhere.
Gohan (Japanese): about 102 seats, air-conditioned plus outdoor seating, Casual Elegance.
Nebbiolo (gourmet Italian): about 90 seats, air-conditioned plus outdoor seating, Casual Elegance.
Olio (Mediterranean): about 148 seats, Casual Elegance. Doubles as the Preferred Club restaurant for breakfast and lunch; dinner is open to all guests.
Rosewater (steakhouse-style grill): about 94 seats, Casual dress code. The renderings show a glassed-in dry-aging case with cuts hanging beside an open kitchen, curved leather booths, white tablecloths, navy walls, velvet-draped columns, and a mosaic-tile inset floor. It is listed as a Preferred Club venue; whether standard-tier guests can book dinner there is a detail I’ll confirm when I walk the property.
The other four venues
Market Café (buffet): about 370 seats, air-conditioned plus outdoor seating, Casual. Continental breakfast 6 to 7 a.m., full breakfast 7 to 11 a.m., lunch 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., dinner 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Bluewater Grill: poolside burgers and hot dogs, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., about 44 seats, beach casual.
Coco Café: open 24 hours for premium coffee, snacks, and ice cream, with late-night bites (soup, sandwiches, pastries) from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
La Casa del Cacao: a chocolate house dedicated to premium organic Dominican and international cacao. Hours and seating are still to come, so do not build a night around it yet.
A private candlelight dinner on the beach is available at extra cost through the concierge.
Dress codes, decoded
Casual: bermudas or capris with sneakers or sandals; swim cover-ups required; dry clothing and footwear required; no sleeveless shirts for men.
Casual Elegance: collared or dress shirts (short sleeves are fine), long pants welcome, sneakers, loafers, or dress sandals; no sleeveless shirts, flip-flops, or hats.
A Formal code exists on paper; no venue requires it. Leave the jacket at home.

Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana has nine bars and lounges with published hours. The cigar lounge and speakeasy are confirmed but hours are still to come, which brings the full count to 11.

La Trastienda is the one to watch. Per the renderings, it is a retro record lounge: a vintage jukebox against wall shelving lined with vinyl records and framed album art, olive channel-tufted velvet banquettes, small cocktail tables lit by lamps, and a marble-top bar on a fluted red base under a dark coffered ceiling and a moody patterned carpet. Hidden speakeasies are a signature move for this hotel family (Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana has the Luggage Room), and real design attention went into this one. This version leans far more analog.
Don George Cigar Lounge, also on the Central Plaza, renders dark and clubby: deep-green tufted chesterfield sofas, leather and boucle armchairs, a marble bar with coral-red stools, backlit shelving for spirits and cigar boxes, full-height drapery, and a parquet floor. A room built for the last drink of the night.
Pools at Secrets Macao Beach: 3 Plus 2 Hot Tubs
Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana has three swimming pools, all unheated:
Infinity Pool: the beachfront activity pool, facing the ocean and mangrove views
Relax Pool: inside the main pool area
Preferred Club pool: reserved for PC guests only
Two outdoor hot tubs round out the count, and the Presidential Suite has its own rooftop jet pool. Swim-out suites feed into their building pools, which the resort does not count separately. That is how a property with 95 swim-out and swim-up units lists three pools.
There is also a rooftop scene: Sky Bar is the rooftop pool bar, and Preferred Club guests get a private rooftop bar of their own. I’ll map the full layout up there when I walk the property before opening.
Spa and Fitness at Secrets Macao Beach
Secrets Spa is the most fully detailed space at Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana so far, down to a named manager: Ricardo Jimenez.
The spa has seven treatment cabins: four doubles, each with double showers, double sinks, and its own hydrotherapy tub, plus three singles with shower and sink. Every treatment room gets a private patio. A dedicated bridal suite adds a treatment room, shower, private bathroom, and triple mirror, sensible infrastructure for a resort courting wedding groups.
The hydrotherapy circuit is where I’d spend my time: cold plunge, foot-bath hydrotherapy, steam room, sauna, four therapeutic showers (rustic, thermal, aromatic, and Scotch), a whirlpool, and a pool with cascade features, swan necks, and jets. A beauty salon (four styling stations, two pedicure stations, and a hair-wash bowl), a spa boutique, locker rooms, a relaxation area, sun beds, and a spa bar complete the floor plan. Treatment menus and pricing are not published pre-opening.
Per the renderings, the treatment cabins run light and airy: cream kit-kat tile and plaster, a marble-top wood vanity, an arched backlit mirror, a foot-bath bowl beside a sage-green lounge chair, wood-slat ceiling detail, and daylight through full-height glazing.
I will say that historically, the spa is usually delayed at the last few new Secrets builds. So we’ll see what happens on April 1st.
The Beach at Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana
The beach is why you book this resort. Macao’s sand is golden, the water breaks into real waves, and the surf scene here is established enough to support its own schools. It is a public beach, so surf schools, seafood shacks, and Dominican families share it with resort guests. I have spent time on this stretch from staying at Dreams Macao Beach one mile away, and that mix is exactly what the busy Bávaro strip does not have. The seclusion is real, and so is the life on the sand.
A surf beach cuts both ways. Waves strong enough for lessons are waves you feel when you swim, and some days will favor watching over floating. If glassy, pool-calm ocean is the requirement, this is the wrong beach.
Sargassum season in the Dominican Republic runs roughly April to October. How much of it reaches Macao, and how the resort handles it, is something I’ll see for myself. For the best odds of a clean beach week, aim for November through March.

November through March sits outside both the regional sargassum window (roughly April to October) and Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), and that is the DR's best beach weather. If flat-water swimming is the priority, plan water time around the Infinity Pool and the swim-outs, and treat the beach as scenery, walks, and surf. Pick this resort because of the waves, or pick a calmer coastline.
Activities and Entertainment
Included with the stay: a tennis court, basketball, volleyball on the court and the beach, a padel court, pickleball, pool tables, aerobics and water aerobics, dance classes, Spanish classes, non-motorized water sports, snorkeling, an introductory scuba lesson in the pool, sailing, and kayaks. Padel and pickleball both make the list, so racquet-sport travelers are covered. At extra cost: scuba diving, tennis clinics, and fishing.
Evenings run through a closed indoor theater with live nightly shows, plus theme parties and oceanfront entertainment venues. The program leans into romance, wellness, cultural immersion, chef-led experiences, and shows built for the adults-only crowd.
Practical notes: elevators in every building, 24-hour concierge, a doctor on call (extra cost), laundry service 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (also extra), a tour desk, and on-site shopping. Wi-Fi is included property-wide as part of Unlimited-Luxury; I’ll test real-world speed and coverage myself once the doors open. Two details before you arrive: the lobby ATM dispenses Dominican pesos, while the one at Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana dispenses US dollars, a small difference that decides what cash you carry. And true to the brand, no wristbands.
Weddings at Secrets Macao Beach: Packages and Pricing
Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana weddings are already priced through December 20, 2028, so couples can budget a 2027 or 2028 date before the resort hosts a single ceremony.
Packages are quoted in three windows: now to December 20, 2026; December 21, 2026 to December 20, 2027; and December 21, 2027 to December 20, 2028. The resort opens April 1, 2027, so real weddings fall in the second window or the third. Within any window, August to October dates price lower than November to July, and Monday to Wednesday events price lower than Thursday to Sunday. Taxes and gratuities are included on every package.
The quick match: two of you, Elope in Luxury or Honeymoon Bliss; up to 10 guests, Wedding in Paradise; up to 20, Eternal Love; up to 79, Beyond Memorable, or Dulha & Dulhan for South Asian celebrations; vow renewals, Infinitely Yours.
Venues so far: a wedding gazebo and a ballroom. Exact ceremony capacities are still to come, and the plans include a 1,000-person ballroom with breakout spaces. Every package books at least 30 days out; the two largest packages need roughly a year.
