Quiet and romantic, social and loud, or the butler tier with a rooftop pool. Adults-only is a category with three very different personalities inside it, and the wrong one ruins an anniversary. I am Mike Boguslavskiy. I have stayed at 115+ resorts and I book adults-only all-inclusive resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean every week, with a fan community behind three of them. Three Personalities
"Adults-only" tells you who is not at the pool. It tells you nothing about the music. Secrets and Excellence run quiet: couples, long dinners, a jazz trio at the lobby bar. Breathless and the Hotel Zone adults-only resorts run loud: DJs, swim-up bars, a scene you can walk to. Hyatt Vivid sits between them, younger and looser than Secrets without the Secrets price tag. Then there is the butler tier, Impression, Le Blanc and JOIA, where the question is not the noise but the service.

Costa Mujeres · Quiet
Opened February 2025 on a swimmable Costa Mujeres beach: 505 suites, two oceanfront infinity pools, a jungle pool open to every guest, and a Five Diamond in its first year. I run its fan community, so I know it week to week.
Cancún · Quiet
The newest Secrets on the island, 487 suites across three buildings with a rooftop Sky Bar pool for Preferred Club guests. Only 42 rooms have double beds, which matters for friends traveling together; my guide covers that and the rest.
Cancún · Social
Ziva's adults-only sister on the classic wide-beach stretch of the Hotel Zone. Couples who want the big Cancún postcard without kids at the pool end up here, and they come back.
Cancún · Quiet
The quiet-luxury one, Forbes Recommended, adults-only and understated in the middle of the Hotel Zone. For travelers who want Cancún without it ever feeling like spring break.

The adults-only sibling of the Puerto Vallarta original, opened May 1, 2024: suites with big terraces and private Jacuzzis, a rooftop restaurant and bar, NOI for Italian, and full dining access at Garza Blanca and Villa del Palmar next door. The Ultra Mousai suites add a private butler. I toured it before the doors opened and I am due back for a full stay.
Playa del Carmen · Quiet, butler tier at Impression
A twin adults-only complex ten minutes north of the avenue with thirteen pools between the two sides, and the clearest example of "Preferred Club is an upgrade, Impression is a different resort." I stayed in August 2023 and wrote the trip report.
Riviera Maya · Quiet
The best beach of any Secrets resort, on its own stretch of sand twenty minutes from Playa del Carmen. The honeymoon answer when the beach is the point; my five-resort comparison ranks it against Playa Blanca, Playa Mujeres, Akumal and Moxché.
Riviera Maya · Butler tier
The adults-only top of the Paraíso complex, with butler service, walkout beach access from Building 70, and twenty villas with private pools I have stayed in several times. Best food and quietest evenings on the whole complex.
Riviera Maya · Quiet
The adults-only classic north of Playa del Carmen, with its suites recently remodeled and one of the strongest group programs on the coast for friends' trips and milestone birthdays.
Akumal · Butler tier
The upscale side of the Hard Rock family, adults-only on the Akumal stretch, with an AAA Five Diamond every year since 2019 and a local-host program that is the closest thing to a butler without the word.
Playa del Carmen · Quiet, parks included
The adults-only Xcaret hotel, AAA Five Diamond since 2022, with the parks in the rate and workshops on the property instead of a DJ. I have stayed, and with Hotel Xcaret México next door it is one of the two most unique resort environments in Mexico: you are walking through a tropical wonderland, you reach a rope-and-wood bridge over a river, and you can just jump in and swim on. No real beach, a very good made one, and a catamaran day that is included.
Playa del Carmen · Butler tier, parks included
Xcaret's 63-suite boutique next to the big hotel, AAA Five Diamond since 2023. The Xcaret complex keeps growing, and this is where the personal attention lives: a stay curated for the two of you, all day, every day, with the parks still included. Think of it as the Disney World VIP tour that runs the whole week, with the food, the service and the spa to match. I have stayed.
Playa del Carmen · Quiet
The adults-only side of the Paradisus complex at the quieter north end of town, sharing one big footprint with the family resort next door, and I have stayed on both sides. The Reserve is the upgraded tier and the reason to book it: it includes a local experience, currently a cenote visit, a yoga session with a Mayan shaman, and its own pool.
Cabeza de Toro · Social
Opened August 30, 2026 on Blue Flag certified Cabeza de Toro beach: adults-only without the Breathless club intensity or the Secrets price tag, 467 suites between the sea and the lagoon. I run its fan community and wrote the full guide.
Arena Gorda · Butler tier
Iberostar's top-shelf adults-only on Arena Gorda, renamed from Iberostar Grand Bávaro in 2024. Butler-level service on the classic mega-resort stretch, without the mega-resort feel.
Bávaro · Quiet
Adults-only right on calm, reef-protected Bávaro, with a lazy river running through it. The pick when you want a couples resort in the heart of the classic strip rather than out at the quiet ends.
Cap Cana · Social
Ziva's adults-only sister on Juanillo Beach, the calmest swimmable water on the coast, inside Cap Cana's gates and ten minutes from the airport. Couples get the sheltered beach and the shortest transfer without giving up the grown-up atmosphere.
Miches · Quiet
The adults-only flagship of the Miches bay, opened August 2025 on a calm cove that gets markedly less sargassum than the east-facing strip. I run its fan community, so I read how stays are going every week while the resort is still brand new.
Los Cabos · Butler tier
Butler service, seven restaurants, and the polish that made the Cancún original famous, transplanted to the Corridor. The special-occasion pick when the spa is half the point.
Los Cabos · Quiet
The answer to the cape's hardest question: an adults-only resort where you can actually swim in the ocean, on the breakwater-protected sand at Tequila Cove. Adults-only since 2024.
Puerto Vallarta · Quiet
Adults-only on the Hotel Zone beach, a short ride from town, sharing a campus with Dreams next door. Secrets guests can roam both resorts, which quietly doubles the restaurant count, and the Malecón is a taxi away for dinner out.
Aruba · Quiet
The only Secrets in Aruba, at the quiet San Nicolas end of an island that never rains out. Riu Palace Antillas on Palm Beach is the other adults-only all-inclusive here; I plan Aruba as an Aruba Certified Expert and mix in the boutiques when they fit better.
Guanacaste, Costa Rica · Quiet
Adults-only on a calm Papagayo bay, under an hour from the Liberia airport. The pick when the trip is about the two of you, with a hot-springs week at Arenal as the natural second half.
Opening Next
Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana opens April 1, 2027, and UNICO 18°77° Montego Bay opens March 1, 2027. Reservations are already open for both, and I am booking them now.
Hyatt is putting 406 adults-only suites on Playa El Macao, the last mostly undeveloped beach zone in the Punta Cana area. 95 of them are swim-outs or swim-ups and every one of those is Preferred Club, so most ground-floor rooms open straight onto water. Three pools, ten food venues on this side and eighteen counting Dreams Macao Beach next door, a speakeasy called La Trastienda, a Dominican cacao house, and a cigar lounge. Preferred Club guests get water-park access on the Dreams side. Small dogs under 22 pounds are welcome, which almost no adults-only all-inclusive in the Caribbean allows.
I know this sand already. I have stayed at Dreams Macao Beach one mile down the same beach, and the seclusion out here is the real thing: about 22 miles from Punta Cana airport, 35 to 45 minutes by private transfer. April 1 also sits outside hurricane season and at the tail of high season, so the opening window gets prime weather. Being early is worth something at a resort like this, and I read the pre-opening reports every week. UNICO 18°77° Montego Bay opens a month earlier, on March 1, 2027: 451 adults-only rooms and suites on the Montego Bay coastline, nine restaurants and bars, four pools, and the largest Esencia Wellness Spa in the collection at 32 treatment rooms. It is the brand's third resort and its first outside Mexico, so it is the same local-host service as UNICO 20°N 87°W above, moved to Jamaica. A Different Kind of Adults-Only
Every Virgin Voyages sailing is 18 and over.
If the part you love about adults-only is the no-kids-anywhere rule, Virgin Voyages runs its entire cruise line that way: four ships, every sailing 18+, more than twenty restaurants in the fare with no buffets and no dress code, WiFi and group fitness included, and a Bar Tab instead of a drinks package. Breathless and Secrets are both adults-only. They are not the same week.
The word on the booking page is identical, and the resorts could not be more different: one schedules pool parties, the other schedules a string quartet. The mistakes I see most are a honeymoon booked into a party resort because the photos were pretty, and a bachelorette booked into a spa resort because the rate was good. Tell me what the week is for before you tell me the resort you saw online, and I will tell you whether they match.
Common Questions
Guests must be 18 or older to check in, and the rule is enforced at the front desk. Every resort on this page runs that way. A few family resorts run an adults-only section under the same roof instead, and the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara pairs in Cancún and Cap Cana put a family resort and an adults-only resort on one shared campus; the adults-only side stays 18+, the crossover dining does not.
Secrets and Excellence run quiet: couples, long dinners, live music you can talk over. Breathless runs loud: pool parties, DJs, a nightclub. Hyatt Vivid sits between them, younger and looser than Secrets without the Secrets price tag or the Breathless club intensity. For a social couple or a friends' trip that wants adults-only without the Secrets rate, yes. Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana opened August 30, 2026 on Blue Flag Cabeza de Toro beach with 467 suites; Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen sits a block off Fifth Avenue. Neither is as polished as a Secrets, and the pools at Punta Cana close at 7 p.m. For a honeymoon that wants quiet and a spa, Secrets still wins.

UNICO 18°77° Montego Bay opens March 1, 2027, the brand's first resort outside Mexico, with 451 adults-only rooms and suites on the Montego Bay coastline, nine restaurants and bars, four pools, and the largest Esencia Wellness Spa in the collection. Secrets Macao Beach Punta Cana opens April 1, 2027 with 406 suites on Playa El Macao, the least developed beach zone in the Punta Cana area, and my full guide covers it. Preferred Club is an upgrade inside the same resort: a better suite, a private pool and lounge, and upgraded dining access. At Secrets Maroma Beach and Secrets Playa Blanca it is usually worth it; at some resorts the base suites and pools are already the ones you want. Impression by Secrets is a different resort altogether, with butler service on every suite and exclusive restaurants. I tell you which one your money is buying before you pay for it.

Much of Los Cabos and the open stretches of the Cancún Hotel Zone are look-not-swim beaches, and I say so before you book.
